Coach Pierre

Basketball Trainer

🏀 Meet Coach Pierre Sow

I’m Pierre Sow, a 7’1” basketball player and trainer from Teaneck, New Jersey. My journey with the game started later than most—I didn’t pick up a basketball until I was 16 years old—but through discipline, great mentors, and relentless study, I rose quickly.

In high school, I became a two-time state champion before moving on to compete at the Division I level with Hampton University and the University of Hartford. After earning my B.A. in Digital Media & Journalism, I continued my career professionally in Buffalo, New York. Those experiences—learning the game at an accelerated pace, adapting to top competition, and being held to a pro standard—shaped how I coach today.

Why I Coach

Because I started late, I had to study every nuance: footwork, angles, timing, positioning, and the mental side of the game. I learned how to close gaps fast—and that’s where my passion for training comes from. I know what it takes to catch up, build confidence, and unlock your potential, whether you’re brand new to the game or chasing a roster spot.

Training Philosophy

My approach blends simple, repeatable fundamentals with position-less modern skills and a strong emphasis on basketball IQ. Players don’t just drill moves; they learn when and why to use them.

  • Details First: Stance, balance, and footwork drive everything.

  • Game Transfer: Every rep connects to a game action, read, or decision.

  • Confidence Through Competence: We measure progress, celebrate small wins, and set clear goals.

  • High Standards, High Support: Demanding but positive environment—accountability with encouragement.

What We Work On

  • Footwork & Balance: Pivots, drops, counters, and finishing angles

  • Finishing Package: Two-foot power, touch, extension, contact finishes

  • Shooting Mechanics: Form, release, foot prep, shot prep under pressure

  • Pick-and-Roll Reads: Pocket passes, snake, short roll, nail reads

  • Post & Mid-Post Scoring (for Bigs & Wings): Seals, duck-ins, counters, and face-ups

  • Perimeter Skills (for Guards & Forwards): Handle under pressure, pace changes, first-step creation

  • Rebounding & Defense: Boxing out, verticality, contest discipline, positioning

  • Mindset & Habits: Routines, film study basics, confidence building

Who I Train

  • Beginners building a foundation the right way

  • Youth & Middle School players preparing for travel/AAU

  • High School athletes competing for tryouts and roles

  • College-bound players sharpening specific gaps

  • Bigs who want modern versatility—and guards who need paint craft

What to Expect in a Session

  1. Assessment & Goals: Quick check-in, movement screen, and target focus.

  2. Micro-Skill Blocks: Short, high-repetition segments that stack into a game action.

  3. Decision Drills: Guided reads, small-sided games, and live constraints.

  4. Accountability: Take-home cues, simple routines, and measurable next steps.
