About Me
Coach Atom Johnston is in his 25th year of coaching basketball across multiple levels, including more than two decades at the high school level. He recently completed his fourth season as the Head Girls’ Basketball Coach at Elmwood Park High School, where he led a dramatic program turnaround. Under his leadership, Elmwood Park achieved long-awaited milestones: multiple winning seasons, state tournament appearances, county tournament berths, and the school’s first county tournament victory in more than 40 years.
Before Elmwood Park, Coach Atom spent 13 years as a boys’ varsity assistant at Westwood High School and 5 years as a boys’ varsity assistant at Clifton High School. In addition to his high school roles, he has extensive AAU coaching and player development experience and brings that same standard to every workout.
Coach Atom’s philosophy centers on core fundamentals and the habits that win—focus, effort, attitude, and toughness. He leads by example, pushes players to do things the right way, and is committed to helping every athlete reach their highest potential on and off the court.
Coach Atom currently serves as a boys’ varsity assistant at Saddle River Day School. He’s excited to join the STACK Basketball coaching and training staff and can’t wait to get on the court with our athletes.
